Marketing Huddersfield Where to start

Website, SEO or social media: where should we start?

Start with the one that is losing you the most work right now, and for most established Huddersfield businesses that is the website, because search and social media both end up sending people to it. If the site is sound, SEO usually comes next, since it reaches people who already need what you do. Social media earns its place third, as the channel that shows your work to people who are not searching yet. Here is how to check, in an afternoon, which of the three you are actually on.

A business website built by Halizona, open on a laptop

How do you tell if the website is the problem?

Open it on your phone and try to get from the home page to an enquiry about the service you most want to sell. If you cannot find that service without scrolling through a list, if the page carries no photographs of your own work and no reviews, if the form is hidden at the bottom or the whole thing takes an age to load, the website is where you start. Google Search Console will confirm it: plenty of impressions and hardly any clicks means people are seeing the site and choosing somebody else’s.

A website with those faults cannot be rescued by traffic. Send it more visitors through SEO or social media and you get more people leaving.

When should SEO come first?

When the website is basically sound and people already search for what you do, which is true of almost every trade and most business services in Huddersfield. Search reaches people with a need this week, so it is the fastest route to enquiries you can measure. Local SEO in particular, the Google Business Profile and the map results, is often the cheapest gain available to a small firm.

Dolphin Heating started here. The site was built around the phrase Fay’s customers actually type, female gas engineer Huddersfield, and she is now first on Google for it and named in the AI answer. The work was the website, the positioning and the search, built around the right words on a page that does its job.

When is social media the right first move?

When your work is visual, your buyers spend time on a particular platform, and the website is already doing its job. A joiner whose kitchens photograph well, a firm selling to main contractors who live on LinkedIn, a business in a new category that nobody searches for yet: those are the cases where social can lead. Even then it works as a shop window that sends people somewhere, and that somewhere is the website.

What it rarely is, for an established Huddersfield SME, is the first fix. Social posts into a feed without proof behind them or a place to enquire produce likes, and likes do not pay wages.

Where does AI search fit in?

Alongside SEO, because it runs on the same foundations. ChatGPT, Google’s AI answers and the rest name businesses whose pages say plainly what they do, where they do it and what evidence backs it up. A website built that way for search is already most of the way to being cited. Bond Brickwork is recommended by AI search for commercial brickwork and Dolphin Heating is named in the AI answer for a female gas engineer in Huddersfield, and both sit on websites built plainly enough for a person, a search engine and a model to read.

Why does the order matter so much?

Because each of the three feeds the next, and money spent out of order is money spent twice. SEO sends people to the website. Social media sends people to the website. If the website cannot convert them, both budgets leak, and the usual response is to spend more on the channel that appeared to fail. Fix the site first and the same spend on search and social starts to show up as enquiries.

It is also why buying the three from three suppliers goes wrong. Educamus Tuition brought the lot to Halizona as one outsourced marketing team, website, search, content and social together, and turnover more than doubled in the first year of working together.

What would Halizona do in the first month?

Look before we recommend anything. Search Console and analytics tell us who is arriving and from where, half an hour on the site with a buyer’s eyes tells us why they leave, and a check of the Google Business Profile and what the AI assistants say about you completes the picture. Then you get a short plan with one thing first, a fixed figure for it, and a reason for the order.

About Halizona

The marketing company behind this page

Halizona is a Halifax marketing company working with established businesses that want the right people to find them, trust them and give them more of the work they want. That work takes us across West Yorkshire and nearby areas, including Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford, Leeds, Keighley and Skipton.

Websites, SEO, AI search, content, social media, photography, video and marketing strategy all sit with one team here, because splitting them between four suppliers is how a Huddersfield firm ends up paying for marketing that never quite joins up.

Approaching 20 years of websites and digital marketing sit behind that. The businesses we suit best are good at what they do, busy, and past the point where word of mouth on its own keeps the diary full.

Find you.Trust you.Choose you.

Help the right people find you. Give them genuine reasons to trust you. Make it easy for them to choose you.

Common questions

Questions people ask about this

Do we need a new website before doing any SEO?

Only if the current one cannot be updated, hides your services on a single page or fails on a phone. If the bones are sound, the search work starts on the site you have and the site improves as part of it.

Can Halizona look after all three?

Yes, and most of the businesses on this page have us doing exactly that. Websites, SEO, AI search, content, social media, photography and video are all done by the same small team, so the pieces are planned together.

Want more of the right Huddersfield customers finding and choosing you?

Chances are you do not need more marketing at all. You need the parts you already pay for to pull in the same direction.
